PIVOTAL FIGURES IN THE PHILOSOPHICAL CULTURE OF RESTORATIVE JUSTICE

Abstract

In the light of a philosophy of peace and given that any approach to restorative justice has to be interdisciplinary, the author’s standpoint is grounded in philosophy of law. The essay reconstructs the origins of restorative justice, which is transcultural, and focuses on some philosophical perspectives that can contribute to its foundation. Contemporary philosophers’ perspectives, such as those of Martin Buber, Jean Lacroix, Martha Nussbaum or Paul Ricoeur, are to be considered when it comes to giving firm bases to restorative practices and programmes.
