There are global emergencies that are not on the political agenda of governments, even though the survival of humanity depends on their solution: global warming, the lack of drinking water, war and threats to peace, the suppression of fundamental freedoms or the masses of migrants fleeing conditions of misery and degradation. Based on this observation, the author of this article argues that only a Constitution of the Earth can realize the universalism of rights and confront all these planetary catastrophes. The project of a Constitution of the Earth is not a utopian hypothesis, but the only rational and realistic answer to face the drift towards the destruction of life on the planet.
